A great business card can be flashy, fun, and memorable, but also needs to balance in professional and informative. See how to design your own business card so that it incorporates the most important elements that leave a lasting impression.

I think this is good advice. Sound Concepts has what they call a Pique Interest card that describes your business and leaves room for you to fill in your contact information. I've been leaving these around instead of my business card. I think I'll have good results..........

Buy heavy card stock - A flimsy card not only says I might have printed this on my inkjet printer, but it also doesn’t give a great impression of your business quality. Not to mention if I put it in my coat or pants pocket, it’s easily folded or crushed. Personally, I use OvernightPrints.com for my card printing and they always use great, firm (15 pt) card stock.

Great points - especially about using the backside of the card - too many people miss this opportunity and you give examples that really leave an impression. It's important to remember that most of the time you only have one opportunity to make an impression.

Mitch Canter at StudioNashvegas.com (@studionashvegas on twitter) has a really good one that looks like a hotel door key (you know, the ones with the magstripe that you just insert like a credit card). It's surely one of my favorites.

I despise white business cards with black text with a passion. It’s so boring! And, anymore, I automatically flip over a business card to see what’s on the back – I think that’s becoming the norm, so anyone not using the back is definitely missing out on another communicative opportunity. I like these cards, which I saw on Creative Bits, b/c of the red color http://creativebits.org/cool_business_card_desi... – which hardly anyone uses – as well as the humor. It makes me want to show off the business cards to friends and family.
