Progress Updates
April 2008 -
I’ve taken a few months off my blog to focus on my business structure. DailyIdea’s traffic had huge spikes in Q1 and I’ve focused my efforts on Simple Media by creating other videos for clients.December 2007 - Daily Idea’s traffic continues to grow and we’ve started creating our second web show for PopCrunch. Rob and I really changed gears with LVP and have landed our first major customer. We’re built a social platform for local media companies. Have you seen your local newspaper, tv or radio station’s web site lately? Good, then you know there’s a market. Also, our Facebook app is nearing 7,000 users!
November 2007 - I’ve been working on LVP for the past 11 months and as Rob says.. the first 10 sucked. Developing your product isn’t near as fun as selling it and promoting, but it’s nice to reach big milestones. This month is also the launch of our second Facebook app. Daily Idea was selected as a featured video on Crackle and Daily Motion this month.
October 2007 - Is there life in a startup outside of raising money? We’ve got some traction and pushing forward quickly in seeking . DailyIdea.tv continues to have massive traffic growth and has received several accolades in its first 20 shows on iTunes and DailyMotion.
September 2007 - LVP is gaining traction with investors and businesses. DailyIdea is shocking us with early growth. MoreThanDerby is right around the corner from a big surge.
August 2007 - Daily Idea has finally launched! Check it out at www.dailyidea.tv. What a fun ride! A serial web show drawing a quick audience.
July 2007 - Wow… July just flew by! My Bay Area visit was great. Cool people, fun city and good wine (just north). Back to reality, we’ve worked like dogs on the new LVP design and it’s made a huge difference. People like the look and seem to get around much easier. Sales are still slowly climbing, but sites like Smalltown give us hope. Our new web show is accelerating and we’re working out our production process. Stay tuned…
June 2007 - Headed to the Bay. Trying to connect with a few friends and meet some new ones. Full steam ahead on LVP and the web show, but really need to find someone to take over MTD to breathe new life into it. Our new LVP design will be complete by EOM and businesses are understanding our pitch. Jotzel Media has quickly become a company that meets at the intersection of advertising and technology.
May 2007 - Jotzel Media is starting a “real” web show. Real in the sense that we’ve hired a producer (not me), auditioned people for our host and start kicking it in gear. I can’t yet tell the topic, but the show will start in July.
April 2007 - He’s baaaack! Super Cool LA Guy makes his fourth appearance and discussions of actually selling this character to a network begin.
March 2007 - Our development time for LVP is really going faster than expected. Rob and I attended SXSW. It was our first time and I highly recommend it if you’re in the web space. As a business-focused geek, we were massively outnumbered by developers, gamers and designers. However, it was great to feel the excitement of collaboration and hear the success stories from people we met.
February 2007 - Super Cool LA Guy makes his AM debut and the response is immediately positive as we see a nice traffic spike. We’ve determined hyperlocal is fun, but tough to monetize. We really start pushing Louisville Video Pages (LVP).
January 2007 - A new year deserves new projects. We started the group blog, Outside the Valley and inspired by my AM partners, I started “producing” my first web show with my girlfriend called Moxy TV. I bought a camcorder, a Macbook Pro and started finding my way. Luckily, she was great as a host and I limped along through the learning curve.
2006 - Invested time, money and many lines of code to develop a Q&A site that later Yahoo! Answers, Google, Microsoft and 20 startups tried, so we stopped. Just like the old beer commercial… we knew when to say when. We do still have the code if someone is interested.
We start a new company, Jotzel Media to play with digital media ideas and discuss with local VC firm.
Remember as a kid those books where you chose your own adventure? Well, we decided to let you do the same with a “modern” version at Almost Mediocre called I Don’t Know… You Decide. After many, many hours and tons of volunteers (thanks!) our traffic soars and it feels good to take on a big project.
2005 - Founded MoreThanDerby.com a city blog for Louisville, KY and built it with 15 other writers. Still selling telecom through a network of sales agents.
