Robin Wolaner May Have the Best Reason for a Startup

If you don’t know Robin Wolaner by name, you know her great work. Her career includes founding Parenting magazine along with launching Martha Stewart Living and Vibe magazines. She is also the author of a great book you NEED to buy called “Naked In the Boardroom.”

The point I’m making is she’s a player, she’s tried it, done it (successfully) and is going at again with a very, cool startup called TBD.com. Today, they just announced their funding round by a list of rockstar investors. But this story isn’t about the money, it’s about a proven leader who is building a business to help her generation. I sat down with Robin during my Bay Area Visit and while the persona in the book was intimidating, she and her team were a joy to meet. Watch this interview and you’ll see why.

Day 1 Roundup: Bay Area Visit

My first day of this Bay Area was exhausting and stimulating at the same time. I’ve got to give props to my videographer, Dustin DeVoy. The guy has great skills and worked hard. For a guy who’s not into business, he acted engaged the whole day. He was smart to suggest renting a Zipcar which was extremely helpful.

I met some great people and have four hours of video to show for it. It will take me awhile to edit the clips, so in the mean time… watch twitter for a real-time transcript and my flickr pics of where I’ve been. Great day with only one regret… didn’t get to chat long with Noah. Gotta hook up with him later.
